Paradox Talk : Paradox Sports
Welcome to the campfire. Just like walking up to a campfire at a local crag or beach you never know what kind of conversation you'll intercept here. We may be talking about prosthetic feet or it may be the latest health-care bill pending before congress. You may find a thread about which camera is the best to take on your sea-kayaking trip or one asking how to get in touch with Erik Weihenmayer. You just don't know what you'll find here. Use the search function to look up prior threads or just browse.
All we ask is that you be respectful and honor the sanctity of the campfire.
Thx,
Malcolm
Help from Iceland

Date: December 26, 2009 08:53PM I recently became a trainee for the icelandic rescue team or ICE-SAR. You can see what I mean on [www.youtube.com] if you look for ICE SAR.
Anyway We have to learn how to use an ice axe. I was born with a disability on my hands. I have no ulna bone and only 1/3 of radius and just two fingers on each hand. I do pretty well without any prosthetics. But now it seems I need it. I can't use the ice axe cause I can't hold it well enough. Do you have any ideas? Re: Help from Iceland

Date: February 03, 2010 11:17PM Hi Anna,
We have had several people climb who have severe disabilities with their hands. One of our participants who lost all his fingers and thumbs from frostbite, uses a long wrap of velcro tape to help attach his "hands" to his ice tools. I will email him with this information and hopefully he will respond to you. Best, malcolm Life is not what it's supposed to be. It's what it is. How you deal with it is what makes the difference. V.
